Google removed nine malicious Android apps from the Play Store 2021

A series of Android apps that were used to steal Facebook credentials had been downloaded a total of nearly six million times before Google removed them from the Play Store.

Once a user, fed up with seeing the ads, agreed to log into Facebook, they were directed to the legitimate Facebook login splash screen which was simultaneously loaded with separate JavaScript from the app’s command and control servers.

That script scraped the login credentials and sent them back to the developers along with an authorisation cookie given to the user’s device upon successful login.

“Analysis of the malicious programs showed that they all received settings for stealing logins and passwords of Facebook accounts,” Dr Web said.


Dr. Web Anti-Virus said that variations of the Trojan were detected in the following publicly available apps:

3. Rubbish Cleaner by developer SNT.rbcl — 100,000+ downloads

4. Horoscope Daily by developer HscopeDaily momo — 100,000+ downloads

5. Inwell Fitness by developer Reuben Germaine — 100,000+ downloads

6. App Lock Keep by developer Sheralaw Rence — 50,000+ downloads

7. Lockit Master by developer Enali mchicolo — 5000+ downloads=

8. Horoscope Pi by developer Talleyr Shauna — 1000+ downloads

9. App Lock Manager by developer Implummet col — 10+ downloads
